Technology Use Progression

  • GameCube

    GameCube
I remember my first gaming consoles, old-school N64s and Super Nintendos, but the one that captured my heart the most was the GameCube. I had one for longer than I can remember; it was just there, and it was the primary console my sister and I constantly played on until the end of high school. We spent hours upon hours playing on it, and those are memories I'll cherish forever.
  • Nintendo Wii

Another console I received in the sixth grade was the Nintendo Wii. The feeling was jubilant as we played with the motion controls. We danced, sword fought, rescued Hyrule, played plenty of rock shows, fought zombies, and binged plenty of Netflix when streaming became available. It was a fantastic bonding experience with my sister, especially after we found the GameCube controller ports.

Next, as touchscreen devices became more prevalent, I was thirteen when I got my first smartphone. I had played with my mother’s phone before, but it was amazing to have my own. I was enthralled with all of the features, including internet usage. Every new discovery on it felt like I was a genius.
  • PlayStation 4

    PlayStation 4
A couple of years later, as I was about to go into my last semester of high school, my uncle gifted us a PlayStation 4, and to say I was hooked is an understatement. I’d spend hours on my days off on the console, even using money from my first job to buy my own game that I still play today. Even though the original console was stolen, I bought my current one in early 2018.
  • Nintendo Switch

    Nintendo Switch
I purchased my Nintendo Switch in early 2019 with my second tax refund. The console had been out for a year or so by then, but I was overly protective and damn near feral over the console. I still play on it whenever possible (I played on it in between writing this post). While the Switch is over seven years old, and the hardware struggles with older models, it’s still an incredible device that makes its best airplane impression when running Tears of the Kingdom.
  • Windows 11

    Windows 11
The most recent piece of modern tech I’ve experienced is Windows 11 on this laptop. I was hesitant, considering the design is meant to mimic the Macintosh UI and my immense aversion to all things Apple-related; I was genuinely surprised by all the features I didn’t realize I needed, like custom window layouts for different applications. So long are the days of trying to align two browser tabs at once perfectly.
