Technology Timeline: The Telephone

  • The orginal phone

    The first phone was created by Alexander Graham Bell on March 10, 1876. His assistant that helped him create the first phone was Mr. Watson.
  • The candlestick

    The candlestick phone was the next upgrade from the original telephone created. It was in two separate pieces, and the phone was placed by your ear in order to hear the conversation.
  • The Rotary

    The rotary was a really popular phone back in its days. To dial the phone, you had to rotate the dial to the number and let it go back before dialing the next number.
  • The Push-button

    The Push-button
    The push-button was introduced by AT&T in the 1963. This phone had a key pad to let u push the numbers to call a person.
  • The Portable Phone

    The Portable Phone
    The portable phone was the first phone that u could actually walk off with, as long as you still had service. This phone still had the push buttons, but it also had an answering machine to.
  • The Motorola DynaTAC

    The Motorola DynaTAC
    This was the first available mobile phone. These types of phones let you take them where ever you wanted to go. Instead of being connected to the wall, it allowed you to travel anywhere and still talk on the phone.
  • The Motorola StarTAC

    The Motorola StarTAC
    This type of phone was the first type of flip phone that was successful. This phone also allowed you to text from the key pad rather then just having to call. It also was a big down size in the size. It was a lot smaller then all the other phones created.
  • The iPhone

    The iPhone was the next major phone to be created. The iPhone allows you to use the screen to touch the apps needed for you to use. This phone made every other phone look awfully poor in its design and weak in its technology.
  • The Palm Treo

    The Palm Treo
    The Palm Treo was one of the first phones that allowed you to actually use the screen to click on the items. It also was the first smartphone. This phone also had a key pad to text.
