  • Intel Debuts RAM

    1103, the worlds first DRAM chip was commercially produced. There are many people credited with this invention, mainly Ted Hoff, Stanley Mazor, and Masatoshi Shima. This chip offered higher capacity and faster retrieval of memory.
  • The Microcomputer

    The French company R2E released the first microcomputer with the Intel 8008 microprocessor. While it was not largely successful, it paved the war for other microcomputers to come
  • Microsoft

    Bill Gates and Paul Allen come together and implement the "BASIC programming language", teaching aspiring programmers and creating easier understanding.
  • Apple Joins the Market

    Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak release the single board computer known as the Apple I. People had to purchase their own peripherals and assemble themselves. Apple joined the team as big competitors although the tech industry saw them as a joke near the start.
  • The CD

    While the CD had been in the works for years, the invention by James T. Russell and Philips engineers Kees Schouhamer Immink and Toshitada Doi was finally a reality this year. The novel flat laser disk was endangering the tape.
