Technology Timeline

  • Windows 95

    Windows 95
My family got our first computer in 1996. I was in Kindergarten so I remember very little before having a computer in the house. I remember that it had Windows 95. We didn't have internet, however, until several years later. This computer was mainly used for my older sister to type papers, for my mom to play solitaire, and for me to ply with the "paint" program. My dad probably didn't even know how to turn it on for several years. he had no interest. image from wikipedia
  • Jump Start Second Grade

    Jump Start Second Grade
The first vivid memory I have with technology is playing Jump Start Second Grade on a CD-ROM. It was a very special treat to get to play on the computer for a short time, and this educational game made abig impression on me! I can still remember some of the tasks, and the cute little frog as the mascot. I also remember feeling very accomplished because I was only in first grade and a was playing a second grade game with ease. Ha! image from wikipedia
  • Computer Lab

    Computer Lab
By the time I was in middle school, most schools had at least one computer lab. My school was no exception, and I remember lovnig to learn how to navigate the internet and how to use serach engines, etc. Technology was growing at a rapid pace at this point in my life. image from google
  • Oral Roberts University

    Oral Roberts University
As I was searching for colleges, I knew that I wanted to get out of West Virginia and have the experience of living in a sifferent part of the country. How is technology involved in this endeavor? Because of the internet, I was able to do thorough reaserach on multiple colleges, as well as talk to professors through email communication and even take interactive tours. Had I not had the internet, I may not have ended up at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. image from google
  • Senior Project

My senior project in high school was my biggest and most involved reasearch project up to that point in my life. I relied heavily on internet resources, and remember speciafically thinking, "why do we still have to have book sources?" Technology had already evolved to much at this piont.
  • First Online Class

My freshman year of college, I took my first online class. It was a Biology class, and I really enjoyed the flexibility of being able to work at my own pace and taking more time on some concepts than others. from that point on, I took (and an obviously still taking) many online courses. I enjoy this style of learning.
  • CSC 101

    CSC 101
As a math education major in college, I was required to take two semesters of computer programming where I learned Java. (I use the word learned very loosely.) It was very difficult for me and I did not enjoy the programming language. I was very happy and encouraged when I was actulally able to get my programs to riun, but I spent a lot of hours taking advantage of tutoring for that year. Image from Amazon (this was my textbook)
  • Technology as a Teaching Tool

Presently, I teach high school math and use technology often in my classroom. There are so many resources available, and it is interesting to see how technology has prgressed throughout my life and to see myself go from one computer with endless cords and no internet to now as a teacher with an entire classroom set of laptops and wireless internet.
