  • First radio broadcast across the ocean

    Lee De Forest and Marconi attempted to radio broadcast New Year's international​ yacht races, but the signals ran into each other. De Forest created Audion to improve sound quality.

  • First voice heard on radio

    Canadian engineer, Reginald Fesseden, who worked for Thomas Edison improving radio signals, translated the first voice.

  • Point to point contact to one to many

    This was the transition from point to point contact on ships, to one t​o many (broadcasting); before it was called narrowcasting.
  • Wireless Ship Act

    ​All major US ships with 50+ passengers traveling more than 200 miles, must have wireless equipment. This was what essentially got the Titanic to happen.
  • Radio Act

    Ameature radio broadcasting was clogging the airways, which created the need for a radio license. This sparked the radio being used for public entertainment.
  • NBC is created

    With AT&T, NBC is created, which essentially unified the country.

  • CBS is created

    CBS was created and became NBC's major competitor.

  • Supreme Court deems Tesla inventor of radio

    Despite Marconi becoming the 'father of the radio' the Supreme Court overturned his patent in favor of Tesla
  • FM is created

    New radio format that immediately became a public favorite.
  • Talk radio becomes a hit

    Talk radio becomes a national hit on AM stations, increasing radio's popularity.
  • Podcast

    Podcasting became a new way to listen to the radio in a ​more convenient way.
  • New radio apps

    New radio apps such as Pandora, Spotify, and iHeartRadio are continuing to revolutionize what the radio looks like today.
  • Prediction

    I think that the radio will only really be used for specific things,ie. trucker radio, talk radio, etc. due to the creation and popularity of available​ apps.
  • Prediction

    I think some other sort of technology will beat out the radio, leaving radio to be a rather minuscule​ piece of technology.
