The DVD
The DVD was invented and developed by Phillips, Sony, Toshiba, and Panasonic in 1995. They offered higher storage value than compact discs while still having the same dimension. My dad loves watching movies and shows and has acquired hundreds of DVDs over the years. As a child it was always a treat to get to watch a movie on DVD, whether it was one that we already owned or one that we rented from Blockbuster or the library. -
AOL Instant Messenger (AIM)
AOL introduced its instant messaging system in May 1997. It allowed users to send a direct message from their computer to another user's computer instantly, AIM was first used by companies and businesses but soon became very popular with the general public. I loved using AIM as a way to communicate with friends from school. -
MP3 Player
The first MP3 player was released in 1998. It was called the MPMan F10 and was created by Eiger Labs. MP3 players, a smaller, more portable version of portable CD players, became extremely popular because they allowed the user to download thousands of songs to a single device (rather than having to carry around CDs) that they could listen to anytime and that fit into their back pocket! I loved to listen to my MP3 player to and from school on long bus rides. -
Myspace
Myspace was founded by Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe in August 2003. It was an extremely popular social networking site with a strong emphasis on music, giving self-made musicians and musical artists and opportunity to share their creations with others. I used Myspace as a way to connect with friends from school and enjoyed sharing photos and customizing my profile. -
Facebook
Facebook was created on February 4, 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. It was originally named The Facebook and was created to serve as an online directory for college students. I enjoy using Facebook as a way to connect with friends and share photos. -
Nintendo DS
The Nintendo DS was introduced on November 20, 2004 by Nintendo. It was a portable gaming console with two screens and stylus. It also allowed players to connect and play with each other through the same game. I recieved a Nintendo DS for Christmas one year and loved playing games such as NintenDogs and Super Mario. -
YouTube
YouTube was created on Febuary 14, 2005 by three former PayPal employees, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. Google later purchased YouTube from its original owners in 2006 and continues to own and operate it today. YouTube gives everyone the opportunity create and share their own videos with the world. When I was younger I used to love searching videos about animals such as dogs, cats, and horses and now I use YouTube as a place to listen to my favorite songs and discover new ones. -
Twitter
Twitter was founded in March 2006 by creators Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass. Twitter is an online social networking site that allows users to share "tweets" in 140 characters or less with their followers and other users. Using twitter allows me to follow updates from my friends and celebrities and groups that I am interested in. -
The Wii
The Wii was created by Nintendo and realeased on November 19, 2006. It is an advanced gaming console that allows players to physically interact with the games. After recieving the Wii for Christmas one year, my family and I enjoyed spending time together and playing some of the many fun games such as WiiFit, Just Dance, WiiSports, and more. -
iPhone
The iPhone was first introduced to the public on June 29, 2007. It was created by Steve Jobs, owner of Apple Inc. It was a revolutionary advancement in the technology of cell phones and smart phones and it changed the way we view technology even today. Although I did not own the very first iPhone, I did have later versions as well as the iPod Touch and it was the best phone I have ever owned. -
