Technology through the 2000s

  • USB drives took over

    USB drives took over
Before USB drives, floppy disks were how people saved and transported data. USB drives would eventually take off after proving to be better than floppy disks in every way. They were smaller, more durable, more pocketable, faster, and have more capacity than floppy disks. Now, they are everywhere, and are very handy for carrying around and transferring data. Major manufacturers of USB drives are SanDisk and Verbatim.
  • Bluetooth

    Bluetooth
After being invented in 1998, Bluetooth would slowly improve and become better. The first mobile phone with Bluetooth capabilities was the Ericsson T39. This phone was the pioneer for Bluetooth technology. Now, we can connect anything to anything, from keyboard and mice to earbuds to cars. Developed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group.

    Windows XP and MacOS X
Windows XP and MacOS X would lay the groundwork for modern operating systems by adopting a similar look and feel to the operating systems of today. These operating systems were also much more stable and under friendly than their predecessors.
  • iPod was released

    iPod was released
When Apple released the iPod, it changed the way we listened to music. With its integration with iTunes, it could sync itself with your iTunes account, and have all of your music on the device easily. It also allowed users to shuffle tracks, listening to music in a random order. The iPod may have fallen off and been replaced by mobile phones, but the features it brought can still be seen today.
  • Release of the first iPhone

    Release of the first iPhone
In 2007, Apple released the iPhone, revolutionizing mobile technology. Steve Jobs described it as "An iPod, a phone, and an internet communicator. These are not three separate devices. These are one device, and we're calling it iPhone." The release of the iPhone was a revolution. Technology was very different back then. People had to be taught how to use a touch screen, which sounds silly today. Technology has progressed significantly since this moment.
