Charles Babbage
Charles Babbage was an English polymath, a mathematician, inventor, philosopher and mechanical engineer. He originated the concept of a digital programmable computer. Babbage is also considered by some to be the “father of the computer.”
Babbage's inventions are computer, analytical engine in 1834, difference engine, in 1819 speedometer in 1888 and pilot in 1838. He was born in December 26, 1791 in London, United kingdom. -
Ada Lovelace
Ada Lovelace discovered that a computer can follow a sequence of instructions, a program. She realized that the analytic engine could carry out an extensive sequence of mathematical problems. Example she wrote of one such sequence- how to calculate Bernoulli numbers- this is regarded by computer historians to be the first computer program. Lovelace was born in December 8, 1815 in London. -
Jon Von Neuman
John von Neuman is best known for his work in the early development of computers. As the director of the Electronic computer project at Princeton's institute for advanced study 1945-1955 he developed MANIAC which is a mathematical analyzer, numerical integrator and computer. This was the fastest computer of its kind. Neuman was born on December 28 1903. -
Alan Turing
Alan Turing was a British scientist and a pioneer in computer science. He developed a machine that helped break down the German enigma code during world war ll. The machine was called bombe and it could break the enigma more effectively than the polish bomba kryptologiczna and this is where its name was derived. This was in 1936 that he developed the machine. Turing also laid the groundwork for modern computing and theorized about artificial intelligence. Turing was born on June 23, 1912. -
Douglas Engelbart
Douglas Engelbart was born in January 30 1925 in Portland, Oregon, United states. Engelbart was an American engineer, inventor and an early computer and internet pioneer. Douglas Engelbart invented the computer mouse in 1963/1964 and hypertext in 1965. Hypertext was important because it presented two fundamental changes in the storage of retrieval data. The first was the capability to move rapidly from one part of a document to another by means of an associative link. -
Steve Wozniak
Steve Wozniak is a co-founder of Apple computer. He is also the principal designer and creator of the Apple 1 and Apple ii microcomputer. Together with one of his friends Steve Jobs they founded apple computers in 1976 together with a third co-founder, Ronald Wayne. Wozniak was born in 1950 on August 11. He is an entrepreneur, electronics engineer, programmer and philanthropist. -
Tim Bernes- Lee
Tim Berners-lee invented world wide web, HTML in 1989 while working at CERN, Web browser and hypertext transfer protocol. He graduated from Oxford university. The invention of the world wide web is important because it opens up the internet to everyone, not just scientists. It helped to connect the world in a way that was not possible before and made it much easier for people to communicate, get information and share information. Tim Bernes- Lee was born 8 June 1955. -
Bill Gates
Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington, United states. He is a American business magnate, investor, software developer , author and philanthropist. He is also the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft Corporation is important as it provides tools to enable businesses to be productive and communicate effectively regardless of location. It also serves as a portal for emails, calendar, contacts and tasks, social media.
