    Alexander Graham Bell worked tirelessly to create this incredibly innovative new piece of technology. His first successful call was on March 10, 1876 to his assistant Thomas Watson.

  • Battle of Little Bighorn

    Battle of Little Bighorn
    This battle is known as one of the most significant of the Great Sioux War of 1876. It took place from June 25-26, 1876 along the Little Bighorn River in the Crow Indian territory. This battle was also known as General Custer's Last Stand because of his death during this battle.

  • Election of 1876

    Election of 1876
    Rutherford B. Hayes (Republican) campaigned against Samuel J. Tilden (Democrat) in what is still one of the most controversial elections in history due to the grueling post election process derived from the popular and congress votes. Rutherford B. Hayes came out on top and would go on to serve one term as the President of the United States.

  • Great Railroad Strike of 1877

    Great Railroad Strike of 1877
    For the third time in one year, Baltimore and Ohio Railroad greatly lowering wages of many railroad workers, resulting in the Great Railroad Strike of 1877. This strike lasted for an estimated 45 days and resulted in nearly 1000 railroad workers in jail and approximately 100 dead.

    Thomas Edison, commonly known as America's greatest inventor, invented the light bulb in 1878 after many trial and error experiences. This year started the vast amount of light bulb testing by Edison and his team in his laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey.

    Signed by President Chester A. Arthur, this act was passed in order to prevent Chinese immigrants from coming to the United States. This total exclusion lasted for 10 years and was the first of its kind to include an entire ethnicity group.

    Throughout the history of American congress, there had been multiple disputes over positions in congress. This act was passed in order to make sure that people elected into congress had to endure a certain exams against other candidates and prevented people from getting fired for political reasons.

  • Spanish-American War

    Spanish-American War
    This war grew from territorial disputes and the mysterious sinking of the USS Maine (a ship sent to protect Americans in Cuba during their fight for independence against Spain. This war lasted from April 21, 1898 to August 13, 1898 resulting in an American victory.
