First phone made
Alexander Graham Bell was awarded the first U.S for the invention of the telephone in 1876. He worked with converting sound into an electrical signal via a 'liquid transmitter'. When sound waves hit the membrane, it caused vibrations, varying the strength of the current passing between the needle and the contact. The telephone is one invention that changed the world and opened a wide world of communication. -
Douglas Engelbart
Douglas Engelbart was an American engineer and inventor. Douglas invented the computer mouse in 1964. He was exploring the interaction between humans and computers and wanted to find a better way to point and click on a display screen. The mouse was then made out of wood with a lone button on top, it was very unsmooth in comparison to the mouse nowadays where it can be moved in any direction. The invention of the computer mouse is important because it revolutionized computer interfaces. -
Antibiotics - Biotechnology
Antibiotics is one of the most important inventions in biotechnology. It was invented when Alexander Fleming discovered a fungus, Penicillium notatum, had contaminated a culture plate of Staphylococcus bacteria he had accidentally left uncovered. Antibiotics are medicine that fight certain infections and can save lives (if they are used properly). They can either stop bacteria from reproducing or destroy them. -
ENIAC - Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer
Eniac is the first programmable general-purpose electronic digital computer. It was the most powerful calculating device built to date. It was made by a physicist John Mauchly and engineer J. Presper Eckert. Eniac was invented to calculate artillery firing tables, the settings used for different weapons under varied conditions for target accuracy.. The eniac is important historically since it was the beginning for the modern electronic computing industry. -
The first programmable robot - Unimate
The first programmable robot was developed by George Devol in the 1950s. It was used in GM car factory in the 60s and was the first industrial robot. This invention lead to increased computer industry and lead to more advance robot techniques. -
Bill Gates
Bill Gates is an American computer programmer and entrepreneur who confounded Microsoft corporation. It is the world largest personal-computer software company. Bill Gates invented the concept of a programmable computer. In 1975 most americans used typewriters, Bill Gated and his friend found Microsoft that makes computer software. Microsoft in important since it helps you operate more efficiently so you can be more productive. -
FORTRAN
Fortran is one of the first coding language, it was made by John Backus and others at IBM. It was originally developed for scientific and engineering applications and is now used for numeric and scientific computing. Fortran is important because it marked a notable stage in the development of computer-programming languages. -
ARPANET
The first workable prototype of the Internet was the creation of Arpanet 1966 by Vint Cerf. Arpanet was created to make it easier for people to access computers, improve computer equipment, and to have a more effective communication method for the military. Arpanet was the network that became the basis for the internet and was a communication network designed to transmit data between computer systems on a single network. Arpanet is important since it was the first prototype of the internet. -
Steve Wozniac
Steve Wozniac is known for inventing apple. The original apple computer was released in 1976 by Steve Wozniac. He and Steve Jobs worked on a tesktop computer that they called Apple 1, it consisted of a single motherboard. The second product, Apple 2 was the first personal computer to achieve mass-market success. Apple is an important invention since it is one of the biggest company that designs different types of electronics like computers and telephones. -
First laptop - Osborne
The first laptop made was invented by Adam Osborne and called the laptop "Osborne", the first widely accepted portable computer. It was powered from a wall socket, as it has no onboard battery, but it is still classed as a portable device because it can be hand carried when packed. Laptop is an important invention because it had made it easier for people to carry it with them. Without laptops it would for example be harder to do school work because you couldn't bring the computer with you. -
Python
Python is a very popular high-level programming language. It is used for general-purpose programming and was invented by Guido van Rossum and first realeased in 1991. The python language is one of the most accessible programming languages available due to simplified syntax and not complicated which gives more emphasis on natural language. Python is important because you can use it for developing complex scientific and numeric applications and developing both desktop and web applications. -
Nanotechnology - Carbon nanotubes
Sumio Iijima invented the carbon nanotubes that are large molecules of pure carbon that are long and thin and shaped like tubes, about 1-3 nanometers. Carbon nanotubes are used for many applications such as in energy storage, boat hulls, sporting goods and electromagnetic shields. Carbon nanotubes are impotant because they are strong, lightweighted and electrical conductivity. -
Tim Berners-Lee
Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989, while working at CERN. The web was originally developed to meet and share information between scientists in universities and institutes around the world. WWW is an interconnected system of public webpages accessible through the Internet. By this invention it connected the world in a way that made it much easier for people to communicate around the world. World Wide Web opened up the internet to everyone.
