    First robot known to mankind

    First robot known to mankind
The first robot created that is still known today is a wooden bird that was made in about 400 B.C. This small bird was powered by steam and it's best recorded flight went almost 200 meters. http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2010/10/the-first-known-robot-was-created-around-400-bc-and-was-a-mechanical-bird/?scrlybrkr=e9230084#
  • Accidentally dubbing the term "Robot"

    Accidentally dubbing the term "Robot"
Issac Asimov accidentally created the modern meaning of robot in his short stories. He he used the word for a being that was made to protect a child and that was it's only duty. He used it in many of his stories and later made a collection called "I, robot" in 1950. One of the other things he did for robotics was making 3 laws for robots. http://robotics.megagiant.com/history.html
  • First programmable computer ENIAC

    First programmable computer ENIAC
The ENIAC started creation in 1943 and ended in 1946. It was the first real programmable computer. It was built by J. Persper Eckert and John Mauchly at the university of Pennsylvania. The ENIAC took up over 1,800 square feet and about 18,000 vacuum tubes. Weighing in over 50 tons it is considered by most the first digital computer, even though a judge ruled that it was the ABC computer first. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000984.htm?scrlybrkr=c28460d8
  • Sputnik first artificial satellite

    Sputnik first artificial satellite
The Sputnik was the beginning of the space race between the Soviet Union and the United states. On October 4th 1957 the satellite was launched. It was about the size of a beach ball with antennas, and took only 98 minutes to orbit the earth.
  • First industrial robot

    First industrial robot
The first industrial robot to be mass produced and sold was Unimate in 1961. The Unimate was created for industrial settings. This robot was an accomplishment because it was the first of it's kind. The creator was George Devol. http://www.robotics.org/joseph-engelberger/unimate.cfm http://www.robothalloffame.org/inductees/03inductees/unimate.html
  • First successful personal computer

    First successful personal computer
There is much debate over what the first successful personal computer was but the MITS Altiar 8800 seems to be the most prominent. It was one of the first personal computers and worked well for the almost $400 price tag. http://www.oldcomputers.net/altair-8800.html
  • Voyager spacecrafts

    Voyager spacecrafts
In 1977 the Voyager spacecrafts were launched for going into space and recording what they "see". They are still going to this day and are in interstellar space. They launched from the Kennedy space station on August 20th and September 3rd 1977. http://www.space.com/17205-voyager-spacecraft.html?scrlybrkr=89924fa7
  • First recorded death by robot

    First recorded death by robot
Robert Williams (25) was the first person recorded to ever be killed by a robot. He worked at a Ford motor assembly plant in Michigan. The robot struck Robert in the head instantly killing him. This started people thinking about safety procedures and other thing like that on robots.
  • First dot com domain

    First dot com domain
Symbolics made the first dot com domain on the entire internet back in 1985. It actually looked decent for how early in computer technology this was. http://mashable.com/2010/03/15/first-dot-com-25th-birthday/?scrlybrkr=53d51f11#03WwyiMUTPqo
  • The father of WIFI

    The father of WIFI
Vic Hayes started what we now know as WIFI with the IEEE 802.11. This networking was made for people to transfer information to anyone else from anywhere they were. http://ethw.org/Vic_Hayes
  • Dante and Dante II

    Dante and Dante II
Dante was a 990lb robot that was built to go inside a crater in Antarctic. It was built in Carnegie University and it fell into the crater after a 20 foot fall snapped it's tether. Then the Dante II was built to complete the same objective. the robot did it and was considered a success. http://robotics.megagiant.com/history.html http://www.nytimes.com/1992/12/08/science/robot-named-dante-to-explore-inferno-of-antarctic-volcano.html?pagewanted=all&scrlybrkr=22d2f96d
  • Mars pathfinder

    Mars pathfinder
The Mars pathfinder landed landed on Mars in 1997 on July 4th. It was the first rover on Mars. Being the first of it's kind it had a short life but still lasted 12 times it's expected lifetime. http://science.nasa.gov/missions/mars-pathfinder/
  • First self replicating robot

    First self replicating robot
Cornell University made the first self replicating robot. The only reason for it is to just rebuild itself. But, it was a leap in technology that can be used for medical applications or almost anything. http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/2005/05/researchers-build-robot-can-reproduce
  • First intenet modem created

    First intenet modem created
Bell labratories created the first modem for telephone connection. It was enhanced by to be almost twice as fast as before very soon after in the 50's. They were sold in 1963 an on until today when we have our many times connection. http://history-computer.com/ModernComputer/Basis/modem.html
  • Attachments for computers

    Attachments for computers
There are many attachments for computers that have been created and still are. Things like mice and removable hard drives are a huge part of computers. New one are being made like virtual reality headsets for the population to use.
