Herbert Cecil Booth was a British engineer that created the first vacuum cleaner that people could use for their household. This vacuum cleaner used a hose to pick up dirt and was designed to have the hose fed through a window while the main unit was stationed outside. This changed household management because it led to a new way of cleaning the house. This invention made cleaning up dirt easier and led to more efficient ways to clean the household. -
Automobile
Henry Ford was the inventor of the automobile in the U.S. The invention and accessibility of the automobile changed household management greatly. This allowed families to get to and from places in a much quicker way and allowed for more family time because there was less time spent getting places. -
Automatic Dishwasher
Josephine Cochrane was the inventor of the automatic dishwasher. This invention changed household management because it made cleaning dishes more efficient. This gave families a new way to manage their household chores and spend less time cleaning. Before this invention, cleaning dishes was all by hand and took a decent amount of time to wash and dry. But with this invention, the cleaning was done for you and quicker. -
Electric Refrigerator
Fred W. Wolf was the inventor of the first commercially viable electric refrigerator. This invention changed household management because it improved the way we store food. This gave families the opportunity to keep food cold and make it last longer. With food being kept cold, families could do less grocery shopping because food was not going bad as quick. -
Pop-up Toaster
Charles Strite created the first pop-up toaster. This invention changed household management because it gave families a new and efficient way to make toast, which is a popular food item. This allowed families to make their food quicker and spend less time preparing food. Bread has always been a staple food so this invention improved the quality of ways to eat bread. -
Hairdryer
Alexander F. Godefroy created the first version of the hairdryer in France. The model made its way to the US and found itself in many homes and salons. This changed household management because it allowed women to dry their hair quickly, allowing for more time for other duties in the house. -

Frank Faust from General Electric created the self-contained room cooler unit for homes. This invention changed household management because it made homes much more comfortable. Before this invention, houses would be hot in the summers and cold in the winters. This invention allowed for cool temperatures in the summer making the family more comfortable and creating a more stable household. -
Electric Clothes Washer
Alva J. Fisher created the first electric clothes washer. This effected household management because it made cleaning more efficient. Before the electric washer, it was a long process to clean and dry clothes. This invention allowed families to spend less time on washing clothes and it changed how household chores were. -
Electric Clothes Dryer
J. Ross Moore created the first electric clothes dryer. This invention changed household management because it improved time spent on laundry and made it much more efficient. Before this invention, drying clothes would take a while because they would have to be hung outside. With this invention, families could simply toss clothes into the dryer and come back when the timer went off. This changed the dynamic of household chores. -
The Microwave
Percy Spencer created the microwave after Word War II. This invention made for a quick and simple way to heat foods. This made cooking more efficient in the household. -

This form of radio was made possible by the original radio invention by Guglielmo Marconi. The transistor radio changed household management because families an easy way of hearing the news and music. This made families gather together more to all listen at once. -
Twelve Speed Mixer
Kenmore released the 12-speed mixer in 1956. This mixer made cooking more quick and simple. This cut down time when meals were being prepared improving kitchen efficiency. -
Electric Can Opener
This version of the can opener was made possible by the original can opener invention by Ezra J. Warner. This gave mothers a quick and safe way to open cans when cooking. This prevented less cuts from opening cans. -
Self Cleaning Oven
GE introduced the first self cleaning oven. This technology effected household management because it made cleaning ovens more simple. With this new technology, families could spend little to no time cleaning their oven and taking away that time from household chores. -
Color Television
General Electric introduced the first color T.V in 1966. Color TV changed household management because families were spending more time around the T.V planning time to watch certain shows. Families were watching commercials and the news more often, influencing their perspective on life. -
Smoke Detector
Randolph Smith and Kenneth House created the smoke detector that we see in homes today. This changed household management because it made the house much safer. This allowed families to feel more safe when cooking and when being in the house in general. -
The CrockPot
Irving Nachumsohn received the patent for the model of what is now the CrockPot. The original CrockPot was sold by the company Rival. The crockpot changed household management because it allowed mothers to cook dinner while doing other things. Then at the end of the day dinner would be done and it made cooking very simple. -
Mr.Coffee
Sunbeam developed the first Mr.Coffee pot. This version of the coffee pot made making coffee safer and more efficient. This changes household management because it allowed families easier access to making coffee in the mornings. -
Electric Sewing Machine
The company Singer introduced the first electric sewing machine. This invention changed household management because it allowed for a quick way to fix and make clothing. The wife in the family would be the main one using this at the time and this took away time from hand-sewing ripped clothing or sewing clothing from scratch by hand. -
Mobile Phone
Motorola introduced the first mobile phone and in the year 2000 many households began to own these phones. Mobile phones changed household management because it changed the way families communicated. Family members could talk with one another while being miles apart. -
USB Flashdrive
This technology was introduced in 2000 and allows several different files to be kept in one place. This effected the way students did school work and were able to take their school work home and do it on home computers. This effects household management because it allows students to bring their schoolwork home and have their family interact with it. -

The first household robotic vacuum cleaner was introduced in 2002. This version was made possible from the original design made by Isaac M. Dizon. This appliance did the cleaning all by itself, effecting the dynamic of household cleaning, therefore, effecting household management at the time. -
Wifi Hotspot
The wifi hotspot came out in the year 2008. Before Wifi, there had to be a connecting cable to access internet. This changed household management because it allowed families to use the internet mobily. Many households began to get wifi for their own access. -
Samsung T900 Smart Fridge
Samsung released a smart fridge in 2013. This fridge keeps a grocery list for families and can convert certain sections of the fridge from fridge to freezer. This effects household management because it allows families to let technology do some kitchen managing for them. -
Smart Lighting
Phillips released Hue, a smart lighting system that allows you to control the settings of your lights from your smart phone. This allows families to turn lights on and off from outside of their home and adjust the brightness of the lights. This effects household management because it allows families to control aspects of their home from the palm of their hand. -
Portable Water Filter
The portable water filer by Brita was introduced in 2015. These filters were made portable in water bottles and made drinking clean water much easier on the go. This effects household management because it lets families have easier access to clean drinking water, even from their own kitchen faucet. -
Smart Airconditioning
A smart airconditioning system called The Nest was introduced in 2015. This system allows people to control their air settings from their mobile phones. This effects household management because it lets families control their air more simply. If a family had forgotten to turn their air down and they have already left home, they can easily do it from their phones. -
Echo
The Echo by Amazon was introduced in 2016. This kind of technology listens to voice commands and has several functions applying to the household. This makes household management more efficient because it lets any member of the family add items to a grocery list or simply play a certain song. There are several functions of this technology and makes managing the household simpler. -
Amazon Pantry
This program was introduced by Amazon in 2016. This program tells you what food items you typically buy and what you are low on based on your spending history. You also can take pictures of UPC codes and have amazon pantry buy that food for you. This makes grocery shopping more efficient and effortless.
