An interior upgrade was available for 1965 and 1966 Mustangs. The Deluxe or "Pony" Interior included two-tone seats with running horses stamped on the backs. -
1967 mustang
This was the first year the convertible model featured a two-pane glass rear window that folded down with the roof. It was also the last year of the 289 Hi-Po, but the first year for the 320-hp 390cid 4V V-8 and a 428cid engine used in the Shelby G.T. 500. The 1967 GT390 Fastback is my favorite Mustang. I want a blue one. -
1968 mustang
Mustang got a new grille in 1968. The horizontal bars were removed and chrome trim was added, and the corral around the pony was thinner than in '67. The side scoops were thin chrome pieces, and "Mustang" on the fenders was written in script rather than block letters. 1968 was the first year for shoulder seat belts. -
1969 mustang
Shelby DE Mexico produced 306 Shelby G.T. 350s in 1969. They were based on coupes with 302s, but got fiberglass roof-line extensions to make them look like a sports-roof. They also wore slightly bulged fiberglass hoods 1965 Thunderbird taillights. -
1970 mustang
Ford made 96 Twister Specials for Kansas Ford dealers. They were Grabber Orange Mach 1s with special decals. Ford also made a few Sidewinders, which were built in Dear-born, shipped to Omaha, and sold in Iowa and Nebraska. They were available in Grabber Green, Grabber Blue, Calypso Corral, and Yellow. The stripes came in the trunk and the dealers had the option of installing them on the car. Visit The Pony Site for more info on Sidewinders. -
1971 mustang
Though the 1971 Mustang's wheelbase was only one inch longer than the 1970, every other dimension grew. The Mach 1, available online in the fastback body style, was the designated recipient of the large 429 engine, although the base engine was the small-block 302. The Boss 302 and 429 was dropped in 1971 in favor of the Boss 351. Grand Mustangs had a vinyl top and Grand emblems behind the rear window.
