the first wheel's were not used for traveling at first. they were actually used for potter's in Mesopotamia. the ancient greeks invented the wheel. -
206 BCE
Compass
the first compass was invented in about 206 B.C. The compass was probably invented by chinese fortune tellers. The compass was first used for navigation by the Song Dynasty. -
Microscope
nobody knows for sure who invented the microscope for sure, but it's assumed to be Zacharias Janssen in 1595. His father, Han's, helped his with this project. -
Steam Engine
The steam engine was invented in 1698 by three British inventors. This invention was used to help pump water out of coal mines. -
Electricity
Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity in 1752. On May 10th, 1752 Benjamin Franklin's experiment was tested using a 40 foot tall iron rod instead of a kite. Then, electrical sparks extracted from a cloud. -
Traffic Light
the first traffic light was installed in London December 1868. Exploding a month later, it killed a police officer. -
Typewriter
Christopher Latham Sholes invented the typewriter. Commercials for typewriters were aired in 1874 but typewriters didn't become popular until around the 1880's. Later, Christopher disowned his invention and refused to recommend it to anyone. -
Phonograph
The phonograph was invented in 1877 by Thomas Edison. The phonograph was used for reproduction of sound and or music. It's also known was the gramophone or record player since the 1940's. -
Film
George Eastman invented the use of photographic film. In 1885 he used paper film, but then in 1888-1889 he switched to celluloid. -
Camera
After the invention of photographic film, George Eastman invented his first camera called the kodak. The sales for this camera were first offered in 1888. -
Smoke Detector
George Andrew Darby invented the smoke detector. The smoke detector was tested in 1890 by Francis Robinns Upton. -
Radio
invented by Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor. The first radio signal occurred in Italy in 1895. Flashed first wireless signal across English Channel in 1899. Late received the letter S telegraphed from England to Newfoundland. 1902 was the first successful transatlantic radiotelegraph message.
