    Started when North Korea invaded South Korea in an attempt to militarily overpower them. Their goal was to try and unify North Korea and South Korea as one "Korea", under communist rule.

    The Space Race

    The Space race was a two-decade-long competition between the United States and the Soviet Union, in which both were battling to reach certain milestones of space exploration before the other. Both sides took the lead in said race at times, with the Soviets being the first to operate a satellite with Sputnik, and the United States being the ultimate winner and the first to land a man on the moon. It led to many technological advances such as the first rocket capable of landing men on the moon.

    Sputnik Launched
    The Soviet Union launches their satellite "Sputnik-1" into space. This was the first ever satellite ever launched into space by man. This gave them a major accomplishment over the United States in the heat of the space race.
  • Luna 2

    Luna 2
    Luna 2 was a spacecraft launched by the Soviet Union. It was launched on the twelfth of September and reached the moon on September fourteenth, being the first spacecraft to land on the moon successfully. This breakthrough of being the first spacecraft to make contact with the moon added a lot of fire to the spark fo the space race, inspiring both the Soviet Union and the United States to continue to strive to be the first country to put a man on the moon.

    First Man on the Moon
    The United States successfully landed a man on the moon, being the first to do so. After a long journey from Earth, Neil Armstrong is the first to step on the moon. This event posed as a large victory for the US in their space race against the Soviet Union.

    Soviet-Afghan War

    10-year-long conflict in which the Soviet Union attempted to invade Afghanistan and overpower them. The communist government of the Soviet Union was rebelled against after the invasion by the Afghan's revolutionary fighters, the Mujahadeen.

    M.A.D
    Mutually Assured Destruction. A doctrine created by the United States that stated both the United States and the Soviet Union possessed enough firepower to be catastrophic and mean certain death for almost the entire world. It was an agreement that both superpowers would not resort to using their nuclear weapons, in order to prevent the loss of many lives.

    Vietnam War

    The long conflict between the United States and Southern Vietnam, V.S. Northern Vietnam. Flared up by the Cold War that was also happening. North Korea was a communist government, which is why the US and South Korea were pitted against them.
