Deceleration of Independence Signed
On July 4, 1776 the 13 colonists announced they were seceding from Great Britain. This deceleration outlined why they should be free from the rule of great Britain as well as them declaring their freedoms. This forever changed the future of the colonies and was just the start to their new found freedom -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty ended the 7 year war that involved the United states, Great Britain and France. This treaty also ended the American Revolutionary War. This treaty formally declared the United states independence and it prohibits Great Britain military in the United states. -
Bill of rights
After gaining their independence, the colonists wanted a strong government created with strong foundations. That's when the constitution was created along with 10 amendments that give the individual freedoms to each colonist. It was made to not repeat Great Britain's control and lack of representation of the colonist and to give each colonist freedoms and liberty. -
Louisana Purchase
Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the united states, bought $15,000,000 worth of land from France. This doubled the size of the United States. Jefferson was worried about the constitutionality as it doesn't say if presidents can purchase land. Napoleon threatened tried to take back his offer and this got rid of all the doubts Jefferson had and The united States gained land. -
Transalatic Slave Trade Abloished
The Transatlantic Slave Trade became illegal in 1803. However, the domestic trading of slaves and whaling ships still existed and slavery continue for many years to come. The reasoning for the end of the trade was economic, political or moral issues. -
War of 1812
Great Britain's attempt to interfere with Unites states trade is what caused this war as well as disputes over westward expansion. During this war Great Britain burned down the White house and the famous Star Spangled Banner was written. The war ended in 1815 with the treaty of Ghent. -
Monroe doctrine
President James Monroe created a doctrine stating that European powers would not intefere with the western hemisphere. If they did the United States would take it as a threat and there would be war. This was created after many countries feared that Great Britain would take over again, so as a solution this was written. -
Indian removal act
President Andrew Jackson was known as the common man ,but some of his affairs were controversial. For example, the Indian removal act. His reasoning was for the Colonist to have better economic opportunities once the Native Americans were moved. This law was passed and allowed the president to offer land west for the native Americans land. Many Native Americans relocate to the west but some disagree and resist. -
Trail of Tears
The Trail of Tears was an effect of the Indian removal act. Around 100,000 Native Americans were forcefully moved westward. Over 10,000 native Americans passed or perished during the voyage. The conditions were horrific with starvation, exhaustion and diseases were spread. -
Mexcian American War
The Mexican american war started with the United states annexation of Texas. This led to a border to disputes and the president at the time, Polk, need for manifest destiny and westward expansion. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
