Elementary and Secondary Education Act
Federal government began funding states for the education of disadvantaged students; including low income status, etc. A 'formula' was given to determine funding amounts- states were required to only spend money on appropriate uses. Education is the state's right, so federal gov. involvement was questioned. -
Report "Reclaiming our Nation at Risk"
The message during this report was that our world-class educaiton system was not living up to its expectations and falling behind its competitors. The report recommended increasing educational standards in K-12 levels and that colleges increase their admission requirements. -
Improving America's Schools Act and Goals 200 America Education Act
Both were written under President Clinton's presidency; The Improving America's Schools Act in 1994 required state academic-content standards and tests. The Goals edition gave funding to states for states to write their content standards. -
