Around 1.5 million German troops invaded Poland at around 5 o'clock in the morning. This happened because Hitler said it was a defensive action. This event caused the start of World War 2 -

This was Hitler's last attempt to maintain control of Europe. But, the Germans did not survive. They ended up not having the right equipment for the cold weather and had to give up. -

U.S begins island hopping in attempt to defeat Japan. U.S troops strike the island of Iwo Jima. U.S defeated the army and took control over the island. -
Battle of Okinawa
The Battle of Okinawa was a major battle that took place in the Pacific Ocean. Otherwise known as “Operation iceburg”. One of the bloodiest battles but ended in U.S victory. -
Hitler Commits Suicide
Hitler commits suicide by taking cyanide pills then shooting himself in the head. He died this alongside his wife Eva Braun. They were married less than 40 hours then decided to do it. -
V-E Day
German troops surrender to the allies. France and Britain regain all lost territory. -
Dropping of Atomic Bombs
President Truman drops atomic bombs in Japan. The city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki left in ruins. 185,000 Japanese civilians die. -
V-J Day
Japan finally surrenders. Atomic bomb attack’s triggered the surrender. U.S and allied powers won.
