    Edwin porter maker of the magnificent film The Great Train Robbery. He edited it using a clever technique called splicing. He had to film his footage first so that he could then splice his reel. To do that he would cut up pieces of the reel in which then stick back together the needed bits, this is called a cutaway. he removed unwanted footage and added edits to that it appealed more to the audience. Once complete, he fed it to the projector and this created cutaways in the movie theater.

    Moviola created by Iwan serrurier, was a device which let editors edit a film while watching it. Its the first motion image machine. In 1924 the cost for this device was $600 equivalent to £7000.This device allowed editors to create more precise edits.
  • Linear editing

    Linear editing
    Linear described is, tape to tape. this was the only to edit motion tapes up until the 1990s. Linear has a storyboard, a narrative if you will, where there is a purpose and that played through a beginning, middle and end dimension. Its inexpensive and a simple method to edit. The Great Train Robbery is a great example of this form of editing as its in chronological order.
  • Non Linear editing

    Non Linear editing
    The first Non-linear editing was produced in 1971 by CMX systems. Non linear is where it's not in chronological order so for example you might see the ending at the beginning of a film or even flashbacks which automatically makes it a non linear film as it does not follow the linear process. c
  • TV and Film editing

    Editing has a purpose, amongst those are telling a story and creating a mood or atmosphere. Editing is a concept where every shot feeds the audience with information, that detering from a new character or a new location where one scene appears in a home then suddenly were taken to a luxury jet plane. Editing allows for the smooth transition between the scenes. This is mostly used in films. However we get fewer editing in TV series. we see major special effects in films. E.g. falling bridges.
