Taraji is an average girl who grew up in Washington DC with her two parents. Growing up they did not have a lot. They lived in "hood" but were content with what they had, turning their house into a home with each other's love and support.

Taraji transfers from a techinical school to Howard university to study thatre after failing her calculus class. She ended uo graduating from Howard with the triple threat award in Theatre Arts.

In 1994 her sons father was shot and killed shortly before the birth of his child. they were high school sweethearts.
