Engel's position, in this case, was that having a prayer before each school day violates the first amendment. the court ruled out that Vitale can't have a prayer before each school day because it violates freedom of religion in the first amendment

    Tinker was protesting the Vietnam war with black armbands and the Des Moines expelled her for wearing them, Tinker took Des Moines to court for violating the 1st amendment to freedom of speech. the decision of the court was a 7-2 decision for tinker. it is important because we are allowed to have free speech in schools.
