This event was the first Supreme Court Case , Madison fired Marbury and Marbury sued Madison . In the end , it was unconstitutional. ( It didnt have a date so I used today's date.) -

Gibbons license cmae first and had more rights than Odgen so Odgen's license didnt have any. The court said that Gibbons license overuled and made him superior than Odgens. -

Debs gave apublic speech in Canton , Ohio , it talked about growth of socialism and about mutiny in armed forces.He was arrested and charged with violating the Espionage Act of 1917. The problem was the united States might have violated Debs freedom of speech . -
Dennis vs Untited States
He violated the Section 3 of the "Smith Act" , the act was to probihit advocation of the overthrow of the U,S Government by force and violence. Dennis said that the Supreme Court had violated his freedom of speech. -
Yates vs United States
Fourteen people were charged with violating the Smith Act for being members of the Communist Party in California. The Smith Act made it unlawful to advocate or organize the destruction or overthrow of the government. Yates said that his party was engaged in passive actions and violations of the Smith Act must involve active attempts to overthrow the government. He said that the U.S violated his freedom of speech, -
Miranda vs. Arizona
Miranda was accused of raping and murdering a young woman.Miranda confessed to the crime and his lawyer said that they violated Miranda's rights.They said that Miranda was acquitted, when being questioned they have to read a person's right , then be questioned or arrested. Sources say Miranda was later killed in a barroom brawl stabbed to death. -

All students would wear black bands to organize a protest against the Vietnam War. The school found out about that and said they were going to be suspended.The court ruled against the school district saying that " students do not shed their constitutional rights as the school house gates. In doing so the court protected that was come to be known as the "symbolic speech" -
NY Times vs, United States
The NY Times got information about the war and threaten the government that they were going to realease it. The NY Times said that the government wouldnt let them publish it and it was against their freedom of speech , the government said that information could put the nation in danger.The court proved that this information couldnt harm the nation in any way. -
New Jersey vs T.L.O
Two girls were found smoking in the bathroom one said yes but T.L.O (her initials) denied it and when they serachedher bag they found marijuana and rolling paper , and a large amount of cash and people that owed T.L.O money.T.L.Osaid looking through her purse was violation against her Constitutional rights. The made a new rule at school that they could look through ones bag if they have a suspicion. -
Texas vs, Johnson
Johnson was responsible for flag burning and was arrested under Texas law. Johnson was convicted and 1 year in jail and a 2,000 dollar fine.The Texas court said that this mode of self expression was under the First Amendent.
