Ronald Reagan addresses the National Association of Evangelicals
President Reagan talked about how evil communism was to the group. Soon it became known as his "evil empire speech". Adressed questions on bombs overseas and defense as well.

Strategic Defense Initiative
Proposed by President Reagan to put defenses on ground and in space to protect the U.S. This was mainly to protect from nuclear missles.

Gorbachev, Perestroika, Glasnost
Grobachev who was the general secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union created the ideas of Perestroika and Glasnost which stood for restructuring and openess. His ideas changed the Soviets international affairs & relations and helped end the cold war. -
Reykjavik Summit, Iceland
Was a meeting between President Reagan and the General Secritary of the Communist Party. Things were going well to they collpased last minute and no treaty was made. -

Reagan and Gorbachev sign INF Treaty
Treaty between U,S and Soviet Union agreeing to eliminate nuclear and conventional ground missles. The agreement was ratified by the United States May 27, 1988. -
Fall of Berlin Wall
The wall itself was physically destroyed in 1990. However after the Communist said that east Germans could freely travel out of and into East Germany a massive amount of people left. -
Fall of Soviet Union
Soviet states wanted to be independent and finally got that when the Soviet Union fell. This then created the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The day before (december 25) the President of Soviet Union resigned.
