Lincolns Ten Percent Plan
This was Lincoln's plan to readmit states into the country. If 10% of the male voters in a state swear allegiance to the union, than that state can be readmited. -
Lincoln vetoes the Wade-Davis Bill, deams it "to harsh."
This bill said that all states NEEDED to accept the end of the Civil War and slavery. It also says that over half of the states population had to sign a loyalty oath! -

Congress creates Freedmen's Bureau
The Freedmen's Bureau helped enslaved people become citizens of the US. Some of its tasks were to hand out food and clothing, to build schools and hospitals, and to help families find missing people. -
General Lee surrenders at Appomattox, Civil War ends!

Lincoln is assasinated; Andrew Johnson is elected as president.

Mississippi enacts first Black Code
The Black Codes were a series of laws that greatly restricted the freed slaves rights. They were often very cruel. -
Johnson declares reconstruction complete

13th Ammendment Ratified
The 13th Ammendment basically abolished slavery in the US. -
Radical Republicans
Radical Republicans were in favor of protecting the rights of newly freed African Americans, and thought that Lincolns plan did not go far enough. They thought that the Confederate soldiers deserved harsh punishment, and this is very bad for reconstruction, as we would all have to get along for our country to get back on its feet. -
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Reconstruction Acts
The first Reconstruction Act said that the South should be divided up into 5 military sections or disctricts that would each be governed by 1 US general. -
Johnson impeached
Andrew Johnson was impeached because he tried to fire his secretary of war, who was a radical republican! -
14th Amendment ratified
The 14th Amendment said that "All persons born or naturalized in the United States" would be granted citizenship. This included former, freed slaves! -
Ulysses S. Grant elected
Ulysses S. Grant was a pretty good president, because he removed all of the troos from the southern states! -
Sharecropping
Sharecropping is when a farmer gives off a bit of his crop as a rent! -
15th Amendment ratified
This amendment allowed black men to vote. -
Enforcement Acts
This was a set of 3 bills that protected the black mans right to vote, and to serve in office. -
Amnesty Act of 1872
This act lets many former confedarates run for higher positions in the government! -
Freedmen’s Bureau terminated
