Steps to the American Revolution

  • The theory of mercantilism

    The economic theory that a colony should be self sufficient. Britain considered America as a market. They also had a balance of trade.
  • French and Indian War

    The french and indian war was a war that started because of a dispute for control of land in America. The indians fought on the side of the british and french.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The british government made a plan for the colonists not to settle west of the appilachian mountains. This was to avoid conflict with with the native americans.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    Parliment passed a law that put a tax on all paper goods. These goods were required to be stamped.
  • Quartering Act

    Act that stated that colonist provide housing for British troops.
  • The Declaratory Act 1766

    Act that was passed afre the stamp act was repealed. It gave parliment the power to do anything.
  • Townshend Acts

    A series of acts that include; Revenue Act of 1767, Indemnity Act, Commissoners of Customs Act, Vice Admirality Court Act, and the New York Restraining Act
  • The Tea Act of 1773

    Act that parliment enacted that placed a tax on tea shiped to America.

    A protest by the sons of liberty where they dumed all the British tea into the boston harbor. This was a protest on the tea tax.

    Delegates from each of the colonies excluding Georgia. It was called into order to discuss the intolerable acts.
