Stephen Toulmin
Stephen Toulmin was a British philosopher, author, and educator during the 20th century. Born on March 25, 1922 in London, he grew up to receive a BA, Masters and a PhD from Cambridge University. He used this education to devote the rest of his life to the analysis of moral reasoning. -

Becoming an Author
Toulmin published over a dozen books on understanding reasoning, communication, and moral ethics. One of his most influential pieces being; "The Uses of Argument" 1958. This book is a formal analysis on logic, and how by breaking down the basic parts of an argument, we can justify how effective or ineffective those parts are to the overall outcome. -

Range of Influence
Toulmin helped shape the future with his overall contribution to the philosophy of science before his death. His argumentation method has contributed to providing a teacher program used in multiple universities. Toulmin went on to live a long and successful life, dying at the age of 87 from heart failure. He left behind four children and 13 grandchildren. -
