Hawking Hardship
In 1963 he was diagnosed with a very rare slow progressing form of ALS a form of motor neurone disease or MND after showing symptoms in his last year at Oxford. Few thought he would live more than a couple of years but ended up living much longer than any medical professional predicted. Stephen Hawking - Theoretical Physicist & Cosmologist. (2012). Married Jane
In 1965 Stephen Hawking married Jane Beryl Wilde Hawking Jones an English author and teacher. She was married to Stephen for 30 years. Together they had three children; Timothy, Robert, and Lucy Hawking. Stephen Hawking - Theoretical Physicist & Cosmologist. (2012). Retrieved from https://youtu.be/lr6XbwSOBxM -
Micro Black Holes
Hawking predicted that micro black holes existed at the time of the Big Bang. These mini black holes would have been very hot and shredded mass until they vanished ending in a powerful explosion. Stunned the Science World
Hawking stunned the science world in 1974 with his PhD in Black Holes. He taught the science world how to define a black hole and made a brilliant discovery that they could radiate known as Hawking Radiation which showed the world the connection between black hole physics and thermodynamics. This connection has been a central theme in physics ever since. Stephen Hawking - Theoretical Physicist & Cosmologist. (2012). Retrieved from https://youtu.be/lr6XbwSOBxM -
Royal Society
In 1974 he became one of the youngest fellows of the Royal Society, a prestigious scientific body. Stephen Hawking: a brief history of genius. (2018) Retrieved from https://www.google.com/amp/s/phys.org/news/2018-03-stephen-hawking-history-genius.amp -
Lucasian Professor of Mathematics
In 1979 Hawking was appointed Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, an honor only granted to 14 people since 1663. He saw things that other didn’t see because he thought deeper than others thought. He concentrated his work in cosmology and astronomy. Stephen Hawking: a brief history of genius. Hawking’s Book
Hawking wrote his first book, A Brief History in Time in 1988 selling more than 10 million copies. It was about some of the most profound questions that face humanity. It’s about where we come from and where we are headed for a physicist point of view. Stephen Hawking - Theoretical Physicist & Cosmologist. (2012). Retrieved from https://youtu.be/lr6XbwSOBxM -
Tested Newton’s Gravitational Theories
At age 65 in 2007, Hawking went on a weightless flight in the United States as a prelude to a hoped-for sub-orbital spaceflight. He did this to prove that disability was no cripple to achievement and to encourage all to take an interest in space. Stephen Hawking: a brief history of genius.
