Production of the Steamboat
Steam boats were created by John Finch, and became a staple of transportation for many years -
Different Kinds of Boats
There were many types of steamboats, each having their own "special" ability. Towboats pushed barges. Snagboats cleared rivers for safe travel on the already slow five mile an hour boats. Regular steamboats were just for refilling supplies on other boats, including other steamboats. The most popular was the showboat, which was used for intertainment. -
Baltimore and Ohio Railroad
The creation of the first major railroad in the US, that expanded the use of locomotives. -
I LIKE TRAINS
Trains were first tested on tracks this day, successfully, creating something that is still used to this day for their effiency and reliability. -
Less steamies more locis
Steamboats are a staple of water transportation, but trains were dominating the overall transportation. Trains were faster and more efficient rather than the five mile per hour, good weather only steamboat.
