The First Steam Enegine to be shipped to the Colony of NSW
Until this time mechanical work had been done by windmills,convict tredmills or animals. The steam engine was installed in John Dickson's flourmill at Darling Harbour. Today the area is know as Dixson Street, a misspelling if Dickson,'s name but a reminder of the Australias first steam engine. -
More Steam Engines Were Introduced
By 1831 there were 6 steam engines, includinge one at the Australian Agricultural Company's Newcastle coalmine. -
There were 26 steam engines in flourmills and 10 in other industries.
