Sharmini Anandavel, 15, goes missing from her home at Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue where she lives with her parents. She was supposedly starting the first day at a new job. -
The investigation
For several weeks, Stanley Tippett -- a man who lived in the same building as the missing teen -- is interviewed, searched and followed by police for his connection to Sharmini. Police learn the new job Anandavel was to begin June 12 was set up by Tippett. He is never charged. -
Remains found
Hikers walking along the Don River near Leslie Street and Finch Avenue find the remains of a human body. A forensic investigation of the dental records confirms they are that of the 15-year-old. -
Tippett charged in Barrie
Tippett receives a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of criminally harassing a 25-year-old woman in Barrie, his next-door neighbour in a subsidized housing unit. -
Arrested in Peterborough
Tippett is arrested after approaching a 25-year-old woman at a Wal-Mart job fair about a fake position at the YMCA while on probation. City police find duct tape, rope, a jackknife, shears, a hammer and plastic ties in Tippet’s van the day he is taken into custody. '(Police) perhaps prevented a very serious crime from taking place,' Crown attorney John Marsland would later tell the court. -
Sent to jail
Tippett is sentenced to two years in a federal penitentiary for criminal harassment and breaking a court order. A judge dismisses Tippett’s teary-eyed excuse for having the items he did in his van, calling his actions the premeditated work of a 'stalker' and 'predator.' -
A cry in the night
Tippett is charged with abduction and sexual assault after allegedly kidnapping a 12-year-old girl in Peterborough and taking her inhis van to a location in Courtice, near Oshawa. -
Trial begins
Tippett’s trial for charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, sexual interference, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and breaching bail and probation orders begins. -
Guilty as charged
Mr. Justice Bruce Glass finds Tippett guilty of all counts. The Crown announces that it will apply to have Tippett declared a dangerous offender. -

Jailhouse scheme alleged
Tippitt is charged with obstructing justice. City police allege Tippett tried to bribe a fellow inmate at the Central East Correctional Centre to provide an alibi for him to help him appeal his conviction. -

Tippett appeals his dangerous offender status. -
Obstruction trial begins
Tippett’s trial begins on his obstruction of justice charge. -
Mistrial
With a jury unable to reach a verdict, a mistrial is declared. Tippett remains in custody as a dangerous offender.
