The 1921 ban
The 1921 ban did not allow the different factions within the communist party and banned opposition parties in the soviets. This helped Stalin rise to power by helping him eliminate many of his own oppositionists including major opponents such as Bukharin -
New economic policy (NEP)
This allowed some more rightist views to be accepted so, it allowed people like Stalin and the Bolshevik's to hide personal hunger for power and want for more rightest views. This helped Stalin when defeating the left opposition as well as in gaining power in the central committee. -
Stalin is appointed as General secretary of the communist party
This helped Stalin rise to power because it allowed him to remove those who he beleaved to be against his own cause. This aided in removing oppositionists from the Central Committee as well as in the communist party as a whole. This was the basis for Stalin's rise to power. -

Stalin was able to amount to his status of power not only based on his political ruthlessness, but with the weakness and mistakes of his rivals not doing too much to try and stop his rise to power, Meaning, that he could just continuously rise in power with few obsticals -

Stalin realected a new central committee that were mainly supporters of the triumvirs (Stalin, Kamenev, Zienovev) and especially Stalin supporters in order to limit the support for Trotsky who only had 3 loyal supporters out of the committee of 40; greatly reducing Trotsky's power -
Defeat of the left opposition
Stalin managed to be able to defeat all opposition on the left, that included Trotsky,Zinoviev, and Kamenev. This meant that he would only have supporters for himself and Bukharin, thusly helping him gain popularity by force and helping him maintain power. -
Complete ban on oppositionists
Huge enforcement of stopping oppositionists that included banning, execution, and deportation and expellation from russia. The central commitee then only allowed only 'true' Stalin supporters to remain. -
Defeat of the united opposition
Stalin managed to end the opposition of Trotsky, Zinoviev, and Kamenev for the final time and did more than just stop their opposition; He proved that he was more powerful than the three of them combined and in order to take him out of power, the communist party would go with him. -
Defeat of the right
Stalin managed to take Bukharin out of power along with his supporters of his rightest views. This meant that Stalin could now have complete control over the Central Committee and have only his true supporters in power.
