Mica's Psychosocial Development

  • Initiative

    Initiative
September 02, 1996. When school began, Mica (age 5) was shy. At recess, she approached some children and asked if they wanted to play tag. The other children agreed and they all had fun. This represents stage three of Erikson's Psychosocial Development theory, Initiative vs. Guilt.
The crises at this stage, Mica overcame her nervousness about playing with other children she didn't know well. This risk earned her new friends.
  • Role Confusion

    Role Confusion
June 16 2007, Mica (age 15) is faced with preparing for the role she wants to play for the rest of her life. She is intimidated and so puts off deciding what she wants to be when she grows up. This is stage 5, Identity vs. Role Confusion. The crises here is that Mica didn't put any effort into discovering how she identifies herself in society, resulting in role confusion.
  • Intimacy

    Intimacy
March 4, 2014. For three years, Mica's romantic relationship with her partner grows intimately. On this date, they celebrate their love by getting married. This represents Erikson's 6th stage, Intimacy vs. Isolation. The crises avoided here was Mica (age 22) could have remained closed off from her partner, and not revealing her true self to him. This would lead to a shallow relationship that would likely end. Mica would have felt loneliness.
