Soviets attempt to launch a new satalite sputnik 2 this time carrying a dog proving you can survive the trip into space. The dog died on the way down though because the satalite burnd up on rentry in the atmosphere

Apr 9, 1959

NASA chooses 503 people and after tests only seven remain and are chosen to train to go to space.

First man in space

Apr 12, 1961

Soivets launch first man into space he returns safley and is a hero to Russia.
Less than a month later America does it too but it doesnt impress the Soviets.

JFK Moon speech

Sep 12, 1962

JFK sets his expectations of us reaching the moon before 1970.
Scientist believe they can do it, but can they?

John F. Kennedy Assassinated

Nov 22, 1963

JFk was assassinated before he saw us go to the moon his death was sad but it encouraged us to complete his goal of reaching the moon.

America gets ready to send three men to the moon and succeeds Winning the Space Race. Three months before 1970 meeting the dead presidents expectations.
