Spontaneous generation

  • Redi’s experiment

    Redi’s experiment
This experiment consisted of taking some glass jars, putting meat inside the jars, leaving some jars hermetically sealed and others open, then in the closed jars no life appeared at any time, while in the open ones flies entered. So this scientist proved that spontaneous generation did not exist and that there had to be some life behind it to create more life.

    Needham’s rebuttal
In this experiment it was shown that spontaneous life does exist, although there were some failures. In the experiment he put broth inside some glass jars, at the beginning he left the jars open with the broth, there were bacteria in the broth, then he heated it without the lid, then he closed the jar but microorganisms had already entered through the air, at the end if there was life, later he will do an experiment where he will demonstrate that spontaneous generation does not exist.

    Criticism from Spallanzani
In this experiment it was demonstrated that the spontaneous generation does not exist, it was demonstrated with a refutation of the previous experiment, in this one it was put to heat the flask with broth with stopper something that the previous one when not doing it just when covering it entered microorganisms. After heating it, I had the lid on, so I checked it for microorganisms, and finally there were no microorganisms. He opened the jar and then saw that microorganisms did enter the jar.

Pasteur puts spontaneous generation to rest
This experiment is similar to the two previous ones but with a different flask with a tube, in this one the whole procedure was done without a lid, it was heated and thus killed all the microorganisms that would be there, then it was seen that no microorganisms entered but this was because they were trapped in a small piece of the tube-shaped flask and therefore did not pass into the broth, thus it was concluded that spontaneous generation does not exist.
