  • Virginia Declaration of Rights

    This is a document ratified in 1776 that stated the inherent rights of men. It also included the right to abolish inadequate government. This document was very influential to future documents. This is important because it influenced the deceleration of independence.
  • Bill for Establishing Religious Freedom

    This bill was drafted by Jefferson arguing for the separation of church and government. There is a statue that states the same idea. This bill had become a benchmark of religious freedom sites in american states and even supreme court decisions.
  • Ratification of Articles of Confederation

    The Articles of confederation was the first constitution in the United states adopted on November 15, 1777
  • Treaty of Paris 1783

    Treaty of Paris 1783
    This treaty was negotiated between the United States and Great Britain in which it ended the revolutionary war and declared the independence of the United States. In order for this to happen, there was a continental congress in which King George and representatives from the US attended. This occurred on September 3, 1783. This is important because it created the independent state that the US has become and it created an alliance between the US and Great Britain.
  • Land Ordinance of 1785

    Land Ordinance of 1785
    This was adopted by the US Congress of the confederation on May 20, 1785. The Land Ordinance gave land titles to settlers in the undeveloped west. Since congress did not have power to raise revenue by direct taxation, this provided an important revenue stream.
  • Shays’ Rebellion

    This is given to a series of protest in the years of 1786 and 1787. This 4000 people uprising was led by Daniel Shay and they were fighting against economic injustice. This is significant because even retired George Washington came out of retirement in order to deal with the issue. This is also significant because it called for a stronger national government in order to deal with future uprisings.
  • Constitutional convention

    This is also known as the Philadelphia convention and other names. The original purpose of this convention was to fix the articles of confederation, but others, such as James Madison and Alexander Hamilton had other plans. They wanted to create a new government instead of fixing the old one. this is significant because this lead to the creation of the united states constitution.
  • Ratification of Constitution

    This was a long process, it took 10 months for the first 9 states to approve the constitution. Then congress endorsed a new plan to draft a new constitution then after 3 months the new US Constitution was signed by 38 out of the 41 delegates present at the convention. This is important because since then the constitution has not been ratified.
  • George Washington Inauguration

    On April 30, George Washington to an oath as the first president pf the united states which marked the beginning of his first 4-year term. This happened the ratification of the constitution. This is significant because it was the starts of the government we know now.
  • French Revolution

    This was a war between Great Britain and France in which the US stayed neutral in because they saw the horrible deaths of the others. France asked the US for help but the US denied their help also because they had a treaty with Great Britain. George Washington wanted to keep his people safe.
  • Whiskey Rebellion

    The whiskey rebellion was a tax protest on the first tax imposed on a domestic product. It was intended to reduce the national debt. This was a part of the Alexander Hamilton's program to pay for the war debt that happened after the Revolutionary War. This tax was resisted by farmers in the west. This demonstrated that the national government had the right to suppress violet resistance to its laws.
  • Treaty of Greenville

    This treaty was signed on August 3, in Fort Greenville. This ended the Northwest Indian War and limited strategic parcels of land to the north and the south. This is important because it considered the beginning of modern Ohio history. Also it established what is known today was, Greenville treaty line. Which for a period was a boundary between the Native American and the European settlers.
  • Pinckney Treaty

    The intentions of this treaty were to establish friendship between the US and Spain. Not only that but it also defined boundaries of Spanish colonies from the US. This is significant because it ended the West Florida controversy between the US and Spain over the colony of West Florida.
  • Washington Farewell

    This was by George Washington in which he stressed maintaining political ties with other nations. He also stressed not entering permanent alliances. He urges that Americans uniqueness depended on being independent action on foreign affairs. This is important because he is giving his opinions on how one should rule the US and make it the best nation possible.
  • Jay Treaty

    The Jay Treaty was a treaty between Great Britain and the US that is credited with averting war and resolving issues since the treaty if Paris. This created 10 peaceful years of trade between the US and Great Britain. This is significant because this kept the British from attacking the new world for a period of time. This was signed by Alexander Hamilton because he was a strong supported of chief John Jay.
  • Election of 1796

    The election of 1796 was the first contested presidential election in America. This was between federalist John Adams and democratic-republican Thomas Jefferson. John Adams win the election and is named the president of the US.
  • Alien and Sedition Acts

    These were four billed passed by congress and signed by president John Adams. These bills made it harder for an immigrant to become a US citizen. This allowed the president to imprison and/or deport non US citizens.
  • Quasi War

    The quasi war was an undeclared naval war between the US and France. The was happened between 1798-1800. And was mostly fought at sea. This occurred because the US refused to keep paying their debt to France. France got mad and planned many attacks on American shipping.
  • Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions

    Virginia and Kentucky legislatures argued that the alien and sedition acts were unconstitutional. They were secretly written by vice president Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. The also argues that each individual state has the power to declare that federal laws are unconstitutional.
  • Election of 1800

    This presidential election was between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. in which Thomas Jefferson defeated John Adams. Since Thomas Jefferson was a democratic-republican, they were better organized at the state and local levels. This was a rematch between them.
  • Northwest Ordinance of 1787

    On July 3, 1787 the congress of the confederation passed the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 in which northern territory was created. This was the first organized territory of the united states
