    Luke S. & Hans S. v. Nix et al.
    Suit was filed against the State of Louisiana because students were not being assessed to determine if they were eligible for Special Education Services within the 60 day time limit.
    State of Louisiana stated the did not have enough school psychologists to assess the students within the 60 days.
    The suit resulted in a cost of more than $1 million to the state to pay for overtime hours and extra assistance in assessing the students on the waiting list to be tested.
  • Daniel R.R. v. State Board of Education

    Daniel R.R. v. State Board of Education
    Plaintiff: Daniel R.R. wanted son to be mainstreamed in a half-day Pre-K class so he could be around non-disabled students. Defendant: State Board of Education stated that Daniel was not able to keep up with his classmates and learn the skills that his teacher was trying to teach the class. He required a large number of accommodations and individual attention, so they wanted removed him from the Pre-K class and left him in his half/day early education for students with disabilities.

    Cedar Rapids Community School District v. Garret F.
    Plaintiff: Garret F. needs a wheelchair and is dependent on a ventilator and needs help from a nurse to take care of his physical needs. His family wants the school district to pay for the nurse so Garret can attend school, but the district does not feel they should pay for this nurse.
    Defendant: Cedar Rapids Community School District does not want to pay for the nurse that Garret requires to assist him. They feel they are not legally required to pay for one-on-one care.
