The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)

The Rehabilitation Act
The Rehabilitation Act was enacted. Section 504 prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. The Education for All Handicapped Children Act
Public Law 94-142 known as The Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975. This Law Aided schools in providing equal access to education for over 7.5 million children with disabilities.

Handicapped Children Protection Act of 1986
Requires that each handicapped infant or toddler and their family receive: (1) a multidisciplinary assessment of unique needs and the identification of services appropriate to meet such needs; and (2) a written individualized family service plan developed by a multidisciplinary team, including the parent or guardian. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
(IDEA) is passed. The goal is to provide children with disabilities the same opportunity for education as those students who do not have a disability.

No Child Left Behind Act
No Child Left Behind Act was passed by Congress. This federal law contains the most sweeping changes to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) since it was enacted in 1965.

Rosa's Law
Rosa's Law removes the terms mental retardation and mentally retarded from federal health, education, and labor statues. Preferred language is now intellectual disability. Way to go Rosa! The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
