The Revolution Begins
The revolution begins in several states in northern Mexico. Thousands of Mexicans flee to El Paso and the U.S to escape the harsh conditions. In this time there many strike, working conditions are rough and higher society classes have more rights. The government has turned into a Democracy with giving some citizens little say in it. The people of Mexico are becoming angry and tiny groups start to form to rebellions. -
Porfirio Diaz for President
In this time Porfirio Diaz had reclaimed his presidency for his 8th term.Diaz had modernized the country, but this came with great cost. Diaz was was the top military commander under the previous President Juarez. When Juarez died in 1876 Porfirio Diaz became President. Porcini was Mexico's dictator for 34 years His time of power was referred to as The Porfiriato. -

Emiliano Zapata
Zapata was born a poor all throughout his life. During the revolution he lead an army of those who were poor peasants and had the same beliefs. Zapata believed strongly in his beliefs which caused him to gain many followers and supporters from the lower classes. He tried to give the poor and lower class more rights and equal treatment. Eventually he died in battle, but is remembered for fighting for his people's rights. -
Madero for President
After Diaz had left office Francisco Madero had ran for office. Madero was 38 years old winning the majority vote. He was then one of the youngest Mexican presidents of the time. Also during his presidency was when the Mexican Revolution began. Another thing is that during his reign Madero planned to change the government to Democratic and without changing the social classes. -
Madero's assassination
Victoriano Huerta in the early 1913's assassinated Madero. Huerta was a commander of the Federal Forces. Huerta had joined the counterrevolutionaries which was led by Diaz nephew as he was wanting to become president. After while Huerta was gaining power in Mexico the United States President Woodrow Wilson had sent Marines into Mexico to help with the revolutionists. Huerta was now leading his nations troops, but they couldn't handle the U.S. troops and we're losing many battles. -
Tragic Days
Within ten day Madero, his brother and his VP all die. This prepared the way for the growing nationalism and anti-imperialism . After this the Guatemala plan is to be written. Then Villa attacks Huerta's troops in the Secon Battle of Juarez. To some these days seem to be the most violent of them all. -
The US. Against Huerta
After Huerta takes over the Presidency the U.S declares itself against Huerta.Venustiano Carranza, governor of Coahuila, is declared First Chief in the fight against Huerta. Also both Villa and Zapata are fighting against Huerta.Alvaro Obregón leads Carranza's army to battle. Then the United States forces occupy Veracruz. Huerta is now weak and will surrender from battle. -
The plan of Guadalupe
The plan of Guadalupe was drafted on March 22, 1913 by the Governor of Coahuila. This was written because of overthrown government and execution of President Francisco Madero. Also in this document it stated that vote was free and to return the rule of law. Also it stated that General Victoriano Huerta is not recognized as President of the Republic of Mexico anymore. The document said how the Legislative and Judicial Powers of the Federation is not apart of the Mexican government anymore. -
The Catholic Church
The Catholic Catholic initially supported Huerta. The church represented a force for reaction, especially in the countrysides. After Huerta opposed the political parties the Church No longer supported Huerta's ideas and his presidency. Also Huerta had the president of the Catholic party arrested. Also Huerta stopped the Catholic newspaper for a little which really angered the Church. -
José Orozco
He was Mexican painter, who specialized in bold murals in the time of the revolution. José and Diego were known for making great artwork together and expressing things through their work. Most of his works had great symbolism and many of his paintings involved human suffering. Also in his works he promoted the political causes of peasants and workers. Today José has murals in more than 12 cites and has many pieces in museums from the revolution. -
Women in the Revolution
Woman in the revolution played a major role. They took many responsibilities such as nurses to soldiers in the battles. Also women were very inspirational to the men who were fighting. Wives of the soldiers would be stationed with their husbands at all times. With these contributions from women it helped shape the revolution. -
Battle of Zacatecas
This battle is considered one of the bloodiest battles of the Revolution. This battle was between the División del Norte(Division of the North) who defeated the troops of General Luís Medina Barrón defending the town of Zacatecas. After the victory many of Huerta's old followers were demorilized and lost hope in Huerta. Huerta leaves for Europe. Resignation was on June 15th for Huerta. -
Diego Rivera
His large wall works in fresco helped establish the Mexican Mural Movement in Mexican art. Many scenes in the murals served a social purpose and to establish a publicand unrestricted dialogue and to express people's pain in the revolution. Rivera and many others were instrumental in putting their experiences in art. He is regarded as the most influential Mexican artist of the twentieth century. Mexican culture and history constituted the major themes and influence on Rivera's artwork. -
Obregón
Obregón announces his campaign for the presidency on June 1st. Before running for President, Obregón was a general in the Mexican Revolution. Also before running for president Obregón was in charge of the mission to assassinate Carranza. When Obregón became president he was the first stable president since the beginning of the revolution. He reinforced the idea for everyone to have a great education and changed labor laws so work wasn't so rigorous, this helped end the revolution. -
The Revolution is over
After the signing of the new constitution and Obregón becoming president the revolution finally ends. This is when the art of Mexico comes and better education. Also most workers by now aren't on strike because of the new labor laws, so now people are getting treated better and paid better. Many of the famous Murals in Mexico City are done by artists such as Diego Rivera, Jose Orozco, Frida Kahlo, David Siqueiros and many more. People are now seeing more equal rights between the classes.
