Reason Behind Spanish Inquisition
The reason behind the spanish inquisiton is because the spanish did not jews and muslims in their country so they gave them a choice either to leave or convert. But many did neither so the spanish felt the need to punish them. -

When being sentenced you can suspend the case and go free. Then they could be penaced where you woud be punished publicly and accept the punishment. Then there is reconciled which includes more serious punishments. Lastly the worst penalty would be relaxation where you would be burned alive in public. -
