Luna 1
Luna 1 was the first spacecraft to reach the moon. There were no propulsion systems on the Luna 1 spacecraft. Because of its high velocity its package of various metallic emblems with the soviet coat of arms. and was concluded that Luna 1 was intended to impact the moon.

Alan Shepard

John Glenn
Glenn flew on the STS-95 Discovery shuttle and was a 9 day mission. on those 9 days the crew supported research payloads including deployment of the Spartan solar observing spacecraft.

Apollo 1
Virgil Grissom, Edward White and Roger Chaffee were going to do a test flight in the spacecraft but didn't go well. They lost there lives when a fire swept through the command module.

Apollo 8
The mission objectives for Apollo 8 included a coordinated performance of the crew, the command and service module, or CSM, and the support facilities. The mission also was to demonstrate trans lunar injection; CSM navigation, communications and mid-course corrections and passive thermal control.
