  • Sputnik 1

    USSR lauched the first ever satelite into space called
    Sputnik 1. Which scares countries that the Soviets are
    spying on them and could shoot nuclear weapons.

  • Sputnik 2

    USSR (Soviet Union) lauched a second satelite called
    Sputnik 2 which carried a dog named Laika. This
    proves there could be life in space with the right
    resources.

  • Explorer 2

    America tries to respond to the Soviets by launching
    Explorer 2. The launch failed buy USA did not give up.

  • Vanguard 1

    USA launches the Vanguard 1 which is an amazing
    accomplishment. But unfortunatley it only functioned for
    3 years.

  • Luna 1

    USSR launches the Luna 1. The Luna 1 is the first man
    made aircraft in space to orbit around the sun.

  • Yuri Gagarin

    Soviets send Yuri Gagarin into space. He is the first
    man in space and to orbit the Earth.

  • JFK Moon Approval

    JFK approves that he wants a man to land on the
    moon and safley return before the 1960's decade is
    over.

  • Lunar Orbiter 1

    Americans launch the Lunar Orbiter 1 into space to orbit
    around the moon. Lunar Orbiter 1 becomes the first space-
    craft to take a picture of Earth from that distance. Moon to Earth.

  • Apollo 1 Fire

    A brutal,intense fire kills Gus Grissom,Ed White, and
    Roger Chaffee (Apollo 1 Squad) while experimenting and
    testing in their space capsule.

  • Moon Landing/Apollo 11

    Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin become first men
    on the moon and safley return back to the USA. People
    say the space race is over between the USA and USSR.
