for three years out in space. It was made to test the launch
capabilities of a three-stage launch vehicle and the effects
of the envionment on a satellite and it's systems in orbit. -

Sputnik 3Sputnik 3 was an automatic scientific laboratory spacecraft.
It was conically-shaped and was 3.57 m long. The spacecaft
remained in orbit until April 6 1960. -
Pioneer 1 launched by US.

Due to a launch vehicle malfunction, the space craft
attianed only a ballistic trajectory and never reached
the moon. -

Luna 1 was the first space craft to reach and land on
the moon. Luna 1 was the shape of a sphere. Luna
was made to measure the gas type of the Sun and
study the properties of cosmic ray's. -

The primary goal of the program was to develop a film-return
photographic surveillance satellite to assess how rapidly the
Soviet Uniunwas producing long-range bombers and
blaistic missiles and where they were being deployed. -
