Vostok 1 was launched
Picture found on: WikipediaVostok was launched April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin was from the Soviet Union. He was the first human being to travel into space. Yuri Gagarin completed a single orbit of the Earth in 1 hour and 48 seconds. -
Apollo 8 was launched
Apollo 8 was launched December 21, 1968, it was the first manned spacecraft to orbit the Moon. It was a very important achievement for the Space Shuttle Program. Apollo 8 was launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, U.S.A. -
Apollo 11 was launched
Apollo 11 launched from the Cape Kennedy on July 16, 1969. It was the mission with Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Buzz Aldrin. It carried the first geologic samples from the Moon. -
Apollo 12 was launched
Apollo 12 was launched November 19, 1969 with Charles Conrad and Alan Bean onboard. They also landed on the Moon only 5 months after Apollo 11. It was the 2nd manned mission to land on the Moon, it was planned and executed as a precision landing. They brought back instruments from Surveyor 3 to Earth. -
Apollo 13 was launched
Apollo 13 was launched April 11, 1970 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The landing on the Moon aborted after the oxygen tank explosion. The mission was 5 days, 22 hours 54 minutes long. -
Columbia`s 1st Flight was launched
Columbia launched April12, 1981from the Kennedy Space Center. Columbia was the first reusable spacecraft. It represented a completely new approach to spaceflight. -
Challenger was launched
Challenger was launched January 28, 1986 with teacher, Christa McAuliffe onboard. It was the first unsuccessful mission since Apollo 13. First ever space mission at that time to result in death of those onboard. It exploded 73 seconds into flight. -
Discovery was launched
Discovery was launched April 24, 1990, it sent The Hubble Space Telescope or The H.S.T. into space. It was a great disappointment to scientists around the world when they found out The H.S.T. was broken.
