Sputnik
Sputnik was the first artificial satellite to orbit the Earth. it was launched by the Soviet Union. It orbited Earth at around 360 miles. -
Venera
Venera launch by Soviet Union and it went to Venus. It was the first space craft to enter another planet's atmosphere. -
Mariner
Mariner 2 launched by NASA and it was successful.It flew by Venus and measured the temperature it. -
Pioneer
Pioneer 10 launched and it was successful. It was the first spaceraft that passed throught the asteroid belt and to pass by Jupiter. -
Viking
Viking 1 launched by NASA and it was successful. It was the first spacecraft to land on Mars. It cost about 1 billion US dollars and it photographed the surface of Mars. -
Space Shuttle
Columbia launched and completed 27 missions successfully. On the 28 mission the spacecraft disentigrated upon re-entry on February 1, 2003. -
Magellan
Magellan was a robotic space probe launched by NASA. It mapped the surface of Venus and measured its gravity. -
Galileo
Galileo was a unmaned spacecraft that was launched to study Jupiter and its moon. Galileo cost about 1.6 billion US dollars. -
Hubble Telescope
Hubble launch and it cost 2.5 billion US dollars. Hubble has taken some of the most detailed pictures of deep space. -
N.E.A.R Shoemaker
Shoemaker launched by NASA to explore the near-Earth asteriod Eros. It was successful because it orbited the asteroid and eventually landed on it on February 12, 2001. -
Voyager
Voyager 2 launched by NASA to explore the outer part of the Solar System and it was successful. It is also a time capsule so that if extraterrestrials find it they will know what Earth is like. -
Space Stations
ISS was launched by NASA with the help of JAXA, Russian Federal Space Agency, and the CSA. It cost about 150 billion US dollars. It was launched to be an observatory, factory, laboratory, and to see what it would be like to live in space. Also it was launched to provide transportation for further missions to the moon, mars, and asteriods. -
Mars Rover
Spirit Mars Rover was launched by NASA to explore the enviornment of Mars. It succesfully landed on Mars on January 4, 2004. It cost 400 million US dollars.
