John Brown was an abolitionist and was determined to end slavery. John Brown had attacked Harper Ferry for armory to revolt but he had lost. John Brown when then accused of crimes and was hanged. -
Sectionalism
Sectionalism was mainly about the event of slavery, because the North didn't want slavery to expand and the South did want slavery to expand it caused them into sectionalism when they were not able to make a choice. Sectionalism was also caused by many disagreements the North and South had on their way of living. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's Cabin was an anti-slavery novel. It caused tension between the North and South because the South was against buying or selling the book and the North enjoyed the book. The South felt the book was offensive to their beliefs. -
Dred Scott Decision
Scott wanted his freedom since his slave owner had died and taken Scott to a state where slavery was not allowed. He ended up not being freed because he was the owners property and in the military you were allowed to bring anything that belonged to you with you. -
The Election Of 1860
During the election of 1860 there was four candidates for three different parties, two Democrats- Douglas and Breckenridge, one Republican- Lincoln, and one Constitutional Union- Bell. While the election was taking place Lincoln was ahead of other and once the election had ended Lincoln was elected. -
Battle At Fort Sumter
The battle at Fort Sumter was one of the first battles in the Civil War period. Before the battle was ready to begin, Lincoln was given 3 options from his General. Lincoln could choose surrender, attack, or provision. Lincoln had chosen provision, but before he had a chance commander Jefferson Davis on the confederacy side, commanded to fire. The Civil War had begun. Violence inspired 4 states to join Jefferson Davis. Union soldiers had brought the torn flag from Fort Sumter to inspire others.
