Sudan's War Crisis timeline

  • 1805 - 1899

    British/Egyptian colonization of what is known as present day Sudan and South Sudan

  • 1955-1972

    The First Sudanese Civil War happens as Sudan got it's independence from the United Kingdom.

  • 1983 - 2005

    Second civil war that lead to a peace agreement between modern day Sudan and South Sudan

  • 2011

    This is when Sudan and South Sudan splits up resulting in South Sudan gaining independence and becoming an independent country

  • 2013-2018

    Due to violence that was ongoing for years a South Sudanese Civil War begins and leads to widespread famine.

  • 2023 - Present

    A war erupts between the RSF and Sudanese Military as a coup causes a civil war that leads to the biggest displacement crisis in the war.
