  • Fort Sumter

    One of 2 forts still held under federal jurisdiction. The South was asking for the fort to be evacuated. The North would refuse and the battle of Fort Sumter began. The South would wind up winning the fort and the battle
  • First Battle of Bull Run

    First Battle of Bull Run
    The plan was simple, attack the Confederate Troops at Bull Run, and move on to take over Richmond. The Confederate troops where able to get the win at this battle. The Union troops out numbered the Confederate troops 10,000 to 4,500
  • Hampton Roads

    Hampton Roads
    This battle included a major effort of the confederate troops to try to break the union blockade. After the confederate evacuation The Virgina was destroyed by its crew. The North was considered victorious
  • Shiloh

    Shiloh
    April 6, 1862, Confederate generals launched a surprise attack on Ulysses S. Grant's forces in southwestern Tennessee. Initial success did not last, the confederat troops were soon pushed back. Which would eventually result in a Union Victory. Reguardless both sides experienced big losses.
  • Penisnsula Campaign

    McCellan landed his troops at Fort Monroe and then continued to move northwest. General Magruder's defensive spot on the Warwick Line caught McCellan by suprise. As McCellan' army reached the outskirts of Richmond a minor battle broke out. The Union troops were victouious.

    The first battle of the American Civil War to be fought on northern soil. this tactical victory by the Union provided Abraham Lincoln the political cover he needed to create the Emancipation Proclamation.
  • Second Battle of Bull Run

    Second Battle of Bull Run
    General Stonewall Jackson for the South would capture the Union supply depot at Manassas Junction. That would mean no communication with Washington D.C for the north. Jackson would take a defensive position on Stoney Ridge. Pope launched a series of assaults against Jackson's position along an unfinished railroad grade. The South would win this battle. The Battle would come to an end on August 30, 1862.
  • Fredericksburg

    Fredericksburg
    Union engineers began to assemble six pontoon bridges before dawn on December 11. And on November 7th The union army got a new commander with Ambrose Burnside. Even though the Union had 13,000 casualties to the south's 5,000 the Union had one the battle and the end date would be December 15,1862
  • Chancellorsville

    Chancellorsville
    This particular battle is consided General Lee's greatest victory. The South would eventually get the win, but it was very unique how Lee split his already smaller army in 2 to attack the Union. And Stonewall Jackson would die during the battle due to freindly fire. The battle would last till May 6, 1863
  • Vicksburg

    After the loss of most of the South's Strongholds, Vicksburg soon became the last hope of defending the Mississippi River. The Goal was clear for the north get Vicksburg, you control the Mississippi. When the South surrended Vicksburg to the North it was a major turning poin it the war. End Date July 4, 1863
  • Gettysburg

    Gettysburg
    Confederates drove Union defenders through Gettysburg to Cemetery Hill. The next day Lee struck the flanks of the Union line resulting in severe fighting including at Devil's Den. On the morning of July 3rd, fighting raged at Culp’s Hill with the Union regaining its lost ground. The Bloodiest Battle of the civil war would end o July 3, 1863 and a union victory would be the outcome.
  • Chickamauga

    Chickamauga
    Before this battle took place both sides of the war were firghting for control of the railroad that went through Chattanooga, Tennessee. Bragg's men strongly assaulted but could not break the Union line. After the end of the Battle which ended on September 20, 1863 the Confederates were victorious
  • Gettysburg Address

    Lincoln's speech was simple, explain why and what for the Union was fighting for. The speech was given at the site of the Battle of Gettysburg and was said with just 272 words. One of if not the most famous speech in American History. To quote Lincoln "Four Score and Seven Years Ago".
  • Wilderness

    This battle would be the First Battle for Union General Ulysses S. Grant. Both sides suffered heavy casualties, Grant attempted to move quickly through the dense underbrush of the Wilderness of Spotsylvania, but Lee launched two of his corps on parallel roads to intercept him. This battle would end being inconclusive. The battle would end on May 7, 1864
  • Spotsylvania

    Spotsylvania
    On May 8, Major K. Warren and John Sedgwick unsuccessfully attempted to dislodge the Confederates under General Richard H. Anderson from Laurel Hill, a position that was blocking them from Spotsylvania Court House.Grant repositioned his lines in another attempt to engage Lee under more favorable conditions and launched a final attack by Hancock on May 18, which made no progress. The winnier would be inconclusive
  • Petersburg Campaign

    Petersburg Campaign
    This battle was not a regular siege of a city or area and the supply line would usually be cut off. This battle would take place over a time spain of nine months and during those nine months it was nothing but trench warfare. General Lee would wind up losing this battle to the north which lasted 9 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days. The official end date would be March 25, 1865.
  • Mobile Bay

    Mobile Bay
    Mobile Bay was the Confederates most important port, and it was protected by Fort Morgan. The union ship Tecumseh on its way in it would hit a land mine and sink. At that point Farragut would get in the flagship and charge the port. By the end of the battle that occured on August 23, 1864, Fort Morgan surrendered sealing the Union Victory.
  • Sherman's March

    Sherman's March
    This march to the sea would begin with Sherman's troops leaving the captured city of Atlanta, Georgia. Sherman's forces destroyed military targets as well as industry, infrastructure, and civilian property and disrupted the South's economy and its transportation networks. He would wind capturing Shavannah on December 21, 1865. Union Victory.
  • Appromattox

    After years of fighting the Civil War would finally end with the surrender of the Confederate army to General Grant. General Lee thought he could retreat with his troups by abandoning, the confederate capital Richmond. The end of the Civil War would come on April 9, 1865
  • Lincoln's Assassination

    Lincoln's Assassination
    When General Lee surrendered to General Grant, everybody thought the War was over little did they know that the people would soon loose their president. While attending a play on April 14, 1865 President Lincoln was shot and killed by John Wilkes Booth. Vice President Andrew Jackson would take over the presidency , This was the First Assassination of a US President.
