In mid-April in 1803 the Louisiana purchase was made. The united states bought roughly 530 million acres in the middle part of the state. The purchase cost fifteen million dollars. In today's time this would cost about five hundred and thirty billion dollars. Soon to be South Dakota was about to be a part of this in 1839. -
South Dakota Becomes A State
On November 2, 1889, South Dakota was added as a part of the United States of America. Depending on who you talk with South Dakota could be the 39th state or the 40th state. The reason for this being is that South Dakota and it's bordering state to the north, North Dakota was signed at the same time. South Dakota borders six states. Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, and North Dakota all border South Dakota. -
Wounded Knee Massacre
The Wounded Knee Massacre is one of the bloodiest massacres in United States history. In the video, it will give the perspective view from the Native American tribes. Estimates are around three hundred people died that day. This included women and children.

The 2011 Missouri River Flood is very important even in South Dakota History. Although the flood didn't result in any death thankfully. It left a record amount of damage. The corps of engineers have been blamed for years of this. In this video I will dive into the issue more.
