Dutch traders arrive at the southern part of modern-day South Africa. They established a stopover between the Netherlands and the Far East. By doing that, they founded Cape Town. -

Diamonds and gold were discovered with caused wealth and immigration. It made the control of the natives even more intense. -

The Boer Wars started. The Dutch resisted punishments. After, they were defeated. This war was between the Afrikaners (the Boers) and the British. The conclusion was that they would rule together beginning 1910. -
National Party
The National Party was voted into power and created a policy which seperated the white race and the black race, -
Union of South Africa
The Union of South Africa becomes a republic after a whites-only vote. The ANC led the opposition to the seperation. The leaders of the ANC were put in jail. Boycotts and protests led to a negotiation of majority rule. -
First Multi-Racial Election
This was the end of the seperation. Majority rule was allowed. This election was under ANC-led government.
