    The Beginning
    In Boston in early summer of 1765 a group of shopkeepers and artisans who called themselves The Loyal Nine, began preparing for agitation against the Stamp Act. As that group grew, it came to be known as the Sons of Liberty.

    The Nine
    The Famous people who formed the Sons of Liberty were: John Avery, a distiller by trade, Henry Bass, a cousin of Samuel Adams, Thomas Chase, a distiller, Stephen Cleverly, a brazier, Thomas Crafts, a painter, Benjamin Edes, printer of the Boston Gazette, Joseph Field, a ship captain, John Smith, a brazier, and George Trott, a jeweler.
  • The Currency act

    The Currency act
    On September 1, 1764, Parliament passed the Currency Act, effectively assuming control of the colonial currency system. The act prohibited the issue of any new bills and the reissue of existing currency. Parliament favored a "hard currency" system based on the pound sterling, but was not inclined to regulate the colonial bills.
  • Outraged!!!

    Outraged!!!
    The Stamp Act was imposed on March 22nd, 1765, the colonists were outraged. The first Sons of Liberty appeared in Eastern Connecticut and quickly spread to most of the other colonies.

    Although it says they were established in 1765, they were really formed in the early months of 1763
